Upcoming: The Eastern Africa Renewable Energy Summit & Exhibition 2010
April 6th -7th 2010
Venue: : Laico Regency Hotel Nairobi Kenya
Theme: “Making Renewable Energy markets for Eastern Africa.’’
Introduction
Eastern African region is emerging as global hub for renewable energy; The Eastern Africa Renewable Energy Summit will be the venue for the largest and most diverse gathering of world leaders, investors, policy makers, researchers, financial institutions and experts dedicated to the sector from 6th – 7th April, 2010
As the Region continues to register consistent and positive economic growth rates, there are serious concerns that energy supply and access challenges are already encumbering the region's overall growth prospects. It should, however, be noted that Eastern Africa has vast renewable and non-renewable energy resources that largely go unexploited.
Growing government support in the form of production subsidies and the increasing liberalization of electricity sectors is boosting the renewable energy industry in Eastern Africa. The announcement of renewable energy feed-in-tariffs in South Africa and Kenya are an indication of more favorable green energy policies in the region.
Renewable Energy markets in Eastern Africa are still in their infancy and require significant public and private financing support and rapid technology diffusion. However, changing government perception in favour of Renewable Energy is adding impetus to market development. Increasingly, Renewable Energy projects are viewed as an effective tool to increase the levels of energy security in both off-grid and grid connected applications.”
The Summit reflects the growing international profile of Eastern Africa in renewable energy and the summit's vital contribution to the sector. To offer decision makers a comprehensive overview of the potential of renewable energy markets in the Eastern African. The Summit will highlight the key developments and trends in Renewable energy markets in the region.
The Region has always strived to be an open global platform for collaboration to promote the adoption of renewable energy and climate change mitigation and is quickly becoming the renewable energy hub for both businesses and governments.
The Eastern Africa Renewable Energy Summit is creating a new spirit of cooperation in the renewable and advanced energy sector by bringing together more and more countries from the developed and developing worlds. The fact that we are expecting more delegates, exhibition visitors and high-profile speakers shows that the summit is emerging as an important bridge between East and West in this critical debate.
